Performs a mixture of administrative and clinical tasks to help ensure efficiency and quality patient care. Under the guidance and supervision of the Physician or Nurse Practitioner, assists in clinical tasks as assigned and assists with general clerical duties as needed for the department and organization. Operates within the guidelines of a Certified Medical Assistant.



Qualifications




  • EDUCATION: High school graduation or equivalent.


  • Experience: Experience working as a team member in a healthcare environment. Experience working with underserved vulnerable populations.


  • LICENSE/CERT/REG: Certification as Medical Assistant and Valid CPR certification.


  • SKILLS: Well organized with attention to detail and strong communication and interpersonal skills. Personable; empathetic with patient's needs and concerns. Basic computer skills preferred. Phlebotomy skills or willing to become a phlebotomist strongly preferred.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

 




  • Assists with office administrative duties as needed.


  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation

    regulations.


  •  Demonstrates behavior consistent with MedStar Health mission, vision, goals, objectives and patient care philosophy.


  • Facilitates the authorization of drug refills and provides prescription information to pharmacies.


  • Helps physicians examine and treat patients, handing them instruments and materials or performing such


  • tasks as giving injections and removing sutures.


  • Interviews patients to obtain medical information and measures their vital signs, weight, and height.


  • Inventories and orders medical, and office supplies and equipment. 


  • May administer routine diagnostic tests.


  • May collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, logs the specimens, and prepares them for testing. 


  • Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams as appropriate. Participates in meetings, serves on committees and represents the department and hospital/facility in community outreach

    efforts as appropriate.


  • Performs other duties as assigned.


  • Records patients’ medical history, vital statistics, and information such as test results in medical records.
